Back in August, I launched my “Mystery Burger” contest, in which I asked readers to determine the identity of a local restaurant where the burger (see image, above) originated. The rules were simple: send in one guess via email, follow me on Twitter and then promote the contest on twitter using the URL provided and #MEmysteryburger.
While a number of correct guesses did stream in via email after I provided some additional clues in September, none of the potential winners followed through with the Twitter aspect of the contest, which was really a shame because doing so would have only taken 10-15 seconds for those with a Twitter account and 1-2 minutes for those without a Twitter account.
That being the case, I have mixed feelings about naming a winner and awarding a prize. On the one hand, I’m one of those types who believes in rules and is a stickler for them. On the other, I hate the idea of there being no winner, especially as I’d like to continue on with this contest in future months.
So that said, what I’ve decided to do is to award the $50 gift card to Sonny’s Restaurant—yes, the burger came from Sonny’s… more on that in a moment—to the first person to submit a correct guess. That person is Matthew V.
Matthew, I will send an email to the gmail address you provided, but if that is not an accurate address or you don’t get my note, please contact me directly.
Now, with regard to the burger, it is the Toro Burger, described by Sonny’s as “a fried egg queso blanco cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion & salsa roja.” That said, the burger I received was topped with pickles instead of onion.
As alluded to in my hints, the Toro Burger is only available for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 3pm.
Congratulations Matthew, and enjoy your meal at Sonny’s. If you get a chance, please do report back to us and tell you how it was.
